The basics

What is permanent makeup?

Permanent makeup — also called cosmetic tattooing, semi-permanent makeup or PMU — places soft, skin-matched pigment into the skin to enhance your brows, lips or lash line. The idea is simple: you wake up ready, without the daily routine.

It isn’t the same as a traditional tattoo. The technique is designed for delicate facial skin, and the colour is chosen to look soft and natural, then fade gradually over time rather than stay exactly as it is forever.

At Maralink Studio in Richmond Hill, every appointment is with Maral herself and starts with a consultation. She maps your features, matches the pigment to your skin tone and agrees the look with you before any work begins. Clients visit from Richmond Hill, Toronto, Markham and Vaughan.

Choosing

Which treatment is right for you?

Sparse, over-plucked or uneven brows? Eyebrow microblading and shading rebuilds shape and fullness, with hair-like strokes, soft powdered shading or a mix of both.

Pale or uneven lip colour? Lip shading (also known as lip blush) adds a soft wash of colour and a gently defined edge.

Want definition without liner every morning? Permanent eyeliner ranges from a barely-there lash line enhancement to a soft wing.

Already have permanent makeup that has faded, turned warm or grey, or lost its shape? PMU correction starts with an in-person assessment of what’s there. Not sure which fits you? That’s exactly what the consultation is for.

Your visit

What to expect from your appointment

Every treatment starts with a consultation: Maral maps your features, talks through the shape and colour you want, and chooses a pigment to suit your skin tone. Numbing is applied before the treatment for your comfort.

Plan on about 2–2.5 hours for brows or lips and 1.5–2 hours for eyeliner. A perfecting touch-up 6–8 weeks later is included with brows, lips and eyeliner.

One honest note: fresh colour always looks stronger than the final result. It softens as it heals, so you’ll see the true shade once you’ve healed. Pricing is quoted after an in-person assessment, because every face is different.

Afterwards

Healing and how long results last

Brows heal over about 7–14 days, with light flaking that’s normal. Their colour softens by around 40% as it settles. Lips heal in roughly 5–10 days, passing through a light peel. Eyeliner can be slightly puffy for a day and heals over 7–10 days.

Permanent makeup is semi-permanent, so it fades gradually over time. How long it stays crisp depends on your skin type, sun exposure and aftercare, and many clients book a refresh to keep it looking fresh. You’ll receive aftercare instructions after your appointment.

Permanent Makeup FAQs

What is permanent makeup, and is it really permanent?

Permanent makeup is cosmetic tattooing: soft, skin-matched pigment is placed in the skin with fine needles to shape brows, tint lips or define the lash line. Despite the name it is semi-permanent, so it fades gradually over time rather than lasting forever, and a refresh keeps it looking crisp.

Is permanent makeup painful?

Numbing is applied for comfort, and most clients find the treatment very manageable. Sensitivity varies from person to person, and Maral works at a pace that keeps you comfortable throughout.

How long does permanent makeup last?

Results are semi-permanent and fade gradually. How long they last depends on your skin type, sun exposure and aftercare. A touch-up 6–8 weeks after your first appointment is included for brows, lips and eyeliner, and many clients book a refresh later to keep the colour fresh.

Is permanent makeup safe?

Hygiene comes first at Maralink Studio: single-use needles, hospital-grade sterilisation and strict cross-contamination protocols at every appointment. Tell Maral about any health conditions, allergies or medication at your consultation so she can advise you before you book.

I already have permanent makeup I’m not happy with. Can it be fixed?

Often it can be improved. PMU correction begins with an in-person assessment of the existing pigment and your skin, then a realistic plan, sometimes over more than one session. Maral will tell you honestly what is achievable.

How much does permanent makeup cost in Richmond Hill?

Pricing is quoted after an in-person assessment rather than listed as a fixed price, because every face and every goal is different. Book a consultation for a clear, personalised quote.
